Given the scale of suffering wrought by the HIV/AIDS epidemic; it is to be expected that
Doomsday scenario of its spread is commonplace. India figures in all these projections. While there is no room for complacency, we should categorically assert our determination and ability to meet this daunting challenge, just as effectively as it was done in the campaign to eradicate smallpox some decades ago. We shall rise to meet social, political and technological challenges and I am confident that we will do so again in the present context.
Trucking Community faces numerous public health challenges. We shall meeting these challenges in the framework of both direct social welfare and human development interventions. AIDS control already accounts for about 10% of our national health budget. Many in my country believe that we are paying disproportionate attention to HIV / AIDS but still this amount needs substantial augmentation for sustainability of this war against the deadly AIDS.
