Youth & Politics

by Aryann @ 2006-05-19 - 03:14:42 pm

The Child is the father of the Man- this proverb truly sums up the inherent qualities of GenNEXT. We talk about generation gap affecting the social set up but that is true because the GenNEXT is more enlightened, informed and is in touch with times – thanks to sweeping information and technological revolution in present times.

Belonging to the category of GenNEXT does not make one superior in itself. There are certain qualities, which make them more dynamic but the old and experienced too have their legitimate contribution to make.

In this column I try to bring to fore those very qualities of Youth, which need to be harnessed in a very constructive manner for the benefit of the society. The advent of globalization and liberalization has thrown open the doors of opportunities for the GenNEXT thereby allowing them to pursue their goals with great abandon. But talk to them on entering politics, the answers you get will make any political leader embarrass. To them the word politics connotes alternative job to retired dacoits and criminals, flop film stars, and bored house wives and the people who are insensitive to society and money guzzlers. Politics to a cross section of your populations is dirty and out of bounds. They consider politicians as people with an incredible lack of credibility.

Here I wish to disagree with those people who nurture this kind of mindset. OK, fine ! it is true that some people in politics are not clean, but is would be utterly unfair to generalize the whole lot as bad. The system may be bad but to revive the current system it is ‘WE’, the “YOUTH” who needs to step in the system and change it for the better, so that our next generations do not have same things to say in any such kind of discussion. Our country needs educated young men and women at the helm, for they are more focused in their goal and on how they are going to achieve them.

The Children are our Future and Youth are the Present. They are a rich powerhouse of energy, bubbling with innovative and revolutionary ideas. Their enthusiasm and zeal to prove themselves need to be channelized in a constructive and productive manner for the benefit of party, society and the country, and this will definitely require able guidance and direction from experienced party leadership.

Ours is a progressive asociation of like-minded people that envisions and endeavors to work in tandem with the party line and reach out to the common man to build a bridge of compassion and empathy. The party image requires an urgent make over and this is possible only if it touches the lives of the common man at the grass root level. The social and development work done by the organization at the grass root level will definitely foster a positive image and lasting loyalty for the party from bottom to top. I am sure that true, honest and committed contribution of the people associated with this organization will bring positive results for the party. The organization requires new innovative ideas to reach out to common man in a constructive manner and take up issues to mitigate their problems. This can happen if more and more your men and women join the party.

In the fight for freedom from the British rule, the youth of this country played a significant role. Those old heads, who argue that the youths are immature and hence incapable of taking decision, are truly nurturing misplaced notions. It is a mistaken prudence that age is always synonymous with wisdom and youth with irresponsibility and immaturity Indian Inc boast of young CEO’s and business stalwarts irrespective of any gender bias. If their leadership, tem building and decision making qualities are recognized and rewarded in corporate world then why not in political arena.

In my interaction with cross section of youth, I find them abreast with prevailing political and social temper. They do not wish to go for political leanings but want to vote the people who have the talent, credibility and aptitude to run a government.

The Youth must take interest in public and social affairs We are the agents of CHANGE- let us contribute our bit to make a change for better. Politics in true sense is a concern for the better needs of common people. So in a way we only become more conscious of our duties towards the society at large. Hardworking and committed party supporters (not workers) are strong pillars of the party and true friends of leaders of rank and file. Aspiring young men and women, who have a will to serve the people can become a driving force in politics. Every party rides on youth wings because they are the ones who reach out to common man by their industrious efforts. Quality of those workers has a telling effect on the net popularity of any political party. Shri Rajiv Gandhi was a youth leader, and donned the mantle of Prime Minister at a very young age compare to age band of PMs in our political spectrum. But he is known for his revolutionary initiatives that make the modern day India.

Politics lets you with the power to change the system on its head. It is a challenging job and “WE” the youth must come forward to make our motherland better place to live in. Youth movement in india is ideologically oriented to the need of the current times by focusing on hard work at the grass root level. The voting age has been reduced to 18 years to empower the imagination of the country’s youth. It welcomes the entry of the youth and more especially young women to enter into active party work. Our leadership is motivating young leaders to come to forefront of decision making process because it is felt that they are more poised to influence the youth of the country that constitute more then 40% of the population, substantially on issues concerning them.

The progress of the party and that of the society and ultimately the country is in the hands of youngsters. Though this column I call upon more and more your men and women with integrity, talent and commitment to come forward to re- energise politics of the country. I urge you all to model yourself after leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi and Vivekananda, known for their contribution to the society. Your dedicated and sincere efforts to mitigate the problem of common people will surely bore fruitful results and would really make a telling difference.
